Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 November 2026 (self-serve account deletion)
- We store only what the site needs to work: your account, the videos you add, and your tier ratings.
- No ads, no tracking across other sites, and we never sell your data. We count page views with cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics.
- Your tiers are public by default; you can make your profile private at any time.
- Delete your account anytime from your tier page (Delete account), or email hello@tiertube.com to get a copy of your data.
Who we are
tiertube ("we", "us") runs tiertube.com, a site where people rate YouTube videos into tiers (S to F) and see the crowd's consensus. Questions about this policy: hello@tiertube.com.
What we collect
- Account details. Your username. If you sign up with a password, we store only a salted hash of it (scrypt), never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address, name and profile photo URL from Google.
- Your activity. The videos you add, the tier you give each video, and any corrections you suggest to a video's category, language or country, with the time of each.
- Session cookie. One cookie (
yt_session) that keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary, HTTP-only, and expires after 30 days or when you log out. - IP address. Used briefly to limit abuse (for example, too many login attempts per minute). Rate-limit records are short-lived and cleared routinely.
- Page-view analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and popular pages. It uses no cookies, does not identify you, and does not follow you across other websites. Data is aggregated (e.g. page, referrer, country, device type).
- Browser storage. Your light/dark theme choice is saved in your own browser (
localStorage) and never sent to us.
How we use it
- To run your account and keep you signed in.
- To calculate the crowd tiers and show your own tier page.
- To keep the site safe from spam and abuse.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it.
What is public
- Your username, your tier page at
tiertube.com/@username, the date you joined, and your ratings, unless you switch your profile to Private. - Recent ratings appear in the live activity feed. If your profile is private, they show as "Someone".
- Ratings from private profiles still count toward the crowd tiers, anonymously.
- Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Services we rely on
- Vercel: hosts the website, processes requests, and provides our cookieless page-view analytics.
- Supabase: hosts our database, located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).
- Google: Google Sign-In (only if you choose it), and web fonts loaded from Google Fonts.
- YouTube: video players are embedded from
youtube-nocookie.com, and thumbnails load from YouTube's servers. When you play a video, YouTube's own privacy policy applies. We may also use the YouTube Data API to fetch public video details; see the YouTube Terms of Service.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and ratings for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, sessions and personal details. Your ratings are deleted or fully anonymised, and the crowd tiers are recalculated.
Your choices and rights
- Make your profile private, change your ratings, or log out at any time.
- Delete your account anytime from your tier page (Delete account), or email hello@tiertube.com from the address linked to your account to ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion. We respond to emails within 30 days.
- If you signed in with Google, you can also remove tiertube's access at myaccount.google.com/connections.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, session cookies are HTTP-only and secure, and the database is not reachable from the public internet except through our server. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell affected users about any breach as required by law.
Children
tiertube is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age for digital consent in your country). We don't knowingly collect data from them; if you think a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll show a notice on the site.
